Nowadays I only listen to RHCP. It’s gotten bad, so bad that when people ask me what bands I listen to, I just tell them RHCP. This is solely to avoid any sort of awkward conversation where I lie about listening to other bands and they try to start a conversation about said bands. I just really have a hard time branching out and always end up coming back to hop from album to album. Just curious if anyone else has this problem, and if they’ve successfully branched out to other bands, how can I effectively do the same?

If you like RHCP, then you’ll like a band like Stone Temple Pilots, too.

Or you could try delving into their past guitarists' bands—Dave Navarro’s “Jane’s Addiction” or “The Panic Channel”, or Josh Klinghoffer’s “Dot Hacker” or “Pluralone”.
