How does your RSD queue work?

Just went to a shop for the first time since they got the record my daughter wanted, and my usual store did not. I've always had an experience if people queue up early, and then enter in that order. This place opened the door and everyone puts in to a free for all. To say it was a shit show is putting it mildly.
So now I am curious, is this shit show the norm, or are most stores considerate and keep the line in order?
