Mortgage loan question

I’m looking at buying a small place of my own (bye bye Vancouver landlords!) and have one potential hitch.
I have an 18k USD student loan I would like to close out by paying it with a Canadian loan. If I leave it in the US it won’t affect my mortgage application, but will holding a loan in Canada be cause for concern?
