Let’s talk private Wells
Post Body

After a home I’m going to purchase got it’s well inspection back, I’m having second thoughts. In particular the comment section, (pasted below). Does this alarm anyone else? Never bought a home with private well so not sure how to feel about this.

COMMENTS: Well does not meet State of XXX guideline for well production, a new well is recommended. In addition, the existing filtration backwashes into septic which does not comply with current code, a dry well needs to be installed and the filtration needs to be rerouted into the dry well. The existing well casing is too close to the ground and does not have a state approved well cap. If this well is going to be continued to be used, casing should be raised and new state approved vented cap should be installed. There is a second well on the property which also does not have a state approved vented well cap on it, a new cap should be installed. Estimate for new well to be drilled to follow. Estimate to install a dry well and reroute existing filtration is $2100.00 plus tax. Estimate to raise well casing on existing well and install a new state approved cap is $550.00 plus tax. Estimate to install new cap on second well is $245.00 plus tax.
