My property borders a creek that seasonally floods. I have been here 5 years and have only seen it flood once. It wasn't even close to the house then.
I have to pay flood insurance of $1200/yr because the back corner of my property is in the flood zone and since I have a basement the fha requires I have a policy.
My house sits on a hill from the creek, but because of the basement it makes my dwelling below floods zone levels. So, if it were ever to flood my basement, my entire city would be suffering.
The area behind my property is owned by the city/county (not sure who it falls under).
My question is, is there a way to deed the back section of my property to the city to remove my actual property from being in the flood zone? I have plenty of land and no worry about something being built behind me.
Where would I start to even figure out the boundaries?
