Offer deadline

Wife and I saw a house that was just out on the market. We loved the house and put an offer down over asking.
The sellers realtor came back saying they want to respect the offer deadline and asked if we could extend our offer expiration for a few more days. Ultimately we said no and will resubmit offer on the day of offer deadlines.
Is this normal with offer deadlines. It makes sense from the sellers perspective but doesn’t seem fair to us.
