Okay so Jakez123 just released a new video regarding the big reveals Teppei made during the 10-year anniversary of Re: Zero. (This post is spoiler free by the way, but it can only be answered by light novel readers.)

Anyway so Jake says that Subarus main story is the envy route. What does that mean? When did Subaru give into envy? I tried googling it but could not find an answer. I assume it's because he's connected to the witch of envy but I don't find that answer at all satisfying.

I thought the whole point of the main story is that Subaru successfully overcomes the sin archbishops both literally and metaphorically. For example Subaru gave into sloth and had to overcome his sloth before he could defeat the sin archbishop of sloth.

And in all the if stories Subaru gives in to the respective deadly sin. He becomes prideful in Pride If, Wrathful in Wrath If. I don't see Subaru being envious in the main story. Sure he's connected to the witch of envy in the main story but he's also connected to the witch of envy in all the alternative routes.

So I just don't get why the envy route isn't an alternate route and why the main story isn't about Subaru defeating all the sins/vices that plague all human beings. We fight against sloth every day. We fight against gluttony. We fight against greed. Or we lose to them.
