In case you might not know, here is the context why they are happy:
Joseph Stalin's death on March 5, 1953, was met with widespread relief due to the end of his brutal, oppressive rule. His regime was marked by mass purges, forced labor camps, and the Great Famine caused by his policies of collectivization, resulting in millions of deaths. Under Stalin, fear and repression gripped Soviet citizens, and any dissent was harshly punished. His passing ended the destructive "cult of personality" he had built, offering hope for a more open and less authoritarian future. Many, both in the Soviet Union and abroad, saw his death as an opportunity to escape his reign of terror and aggression.
