Being a legislator means you are supposed to impartially create laws. If you have a religious bias you cannot preformed the job. Let's look at some recent Religiously motivated legislature that has come to be.
States enacting abortion restrictions, Why Because it makes Jesus Sad. Not taking into account the health and we'll being of the mother or child. Or the possibility that an unwanted child is going to be put through so much trauma from neglectful or abusive parents to having to go through the broken US Foster system. But what would Jesus say?
Marriage is between a Man and Woman. Marriage is not a religious action but a legally binding document. Sorry to destroy your romance but marriage have always been about assets and the combining there of. Ask the Monarchies in Europe. So Your God has nothing to do with the legal binding contracts of the state. And plus if you allow Gay couples to get married they can adopt all of those unwanted babies you forced the mothers to have. Win-Win
Prayer in school. This should be a no brainer. What higher power you believe in has nothing to do with reading, writing and arithmetic. It also has nothing to do with art, science, or phys ed. Maybe in history it should be covered. It has caused a lot of problems that should be brought up. And if we allow prayer in school then we need to allow all religions in school. ALL RELIGIONS. I forgot where I saw the site but a man is offering up free posters of Dionysus to send to Texas Public school so they can be displayed. I approve of this 100%. Worries about teaching ethics then teach Aristotle. He had a grasp of moral ethics before monotheism.
All of the previous examples show the disconnect between the real world and their religious fervor that they stir up. They tweet religious passage but don't "go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”-Mark 10:25
And you have a right to practice any religion you want. I would never expect someone to give up what they believe for anybody else. But the rest of us living in this country have a right not to be governed by your faiths laws. There is no logical explanation to mix state law with religious law.
