Why does the Zoomer generation seem to have no sense of the value of situational awareness?
Post Body

I was talking to an EMS guy, and he said that now, 90% of the time when they respond to a call where someone was hit by a car, or they were knocked out cold by a mugger, it was someone who had noise-cancelling headphones on and they were staring at their phone who stepped out into an intersection without even bothering to look at the crosswalk sign or who didn't see the assailant approach them. People don't seem to realize that if you're not able to pay attention to the real world and you use devices to shut it out then your chances of being in an accident or becoming a victim of crime increase dramatically.

These are the facts: when a mugger is deciding who they're going to approach they don't go after the person who has their ears open and whose head is on a swivel scanning the horizon for potential threats. They go after the person who is in their own little world and who isn't going to see them approach because they've got their eyes on a phone screen and headphones in. Put on one of those giant stupid hats that look like an anime figure and which block all your peripheral vision and you have just made yourself a target.
