Just to get where I stand, I am a Christian and I do not agree with LGBTQ and some liberal ideals and morals. However, I don't push those who are part of it or allies of it away or shove it down their throat saying they are going to hell and scrutinize them. I am not about that. That is not a good way to be amicable with others and just create more hate. I am a moderate so I don't support the right side either. They are just greedy and full of ragged old people who just looks out for themselves. Now that's out of the way, lets get started.
I have noticed mostly in media and just daily life that, mostly in comic book medias or games, have changed a certain character or motive just to say "they are allies of the LGBTQ movement". I am not a fan of that. I understand there needs to be representation but why change a already well established character drastically just fit that. Most recent example is the Little Mermaid. Disney already has a black princess. Why not do a live action on Tiana. She more independent and lot stronger than any other princesses other than Elsa and Merida. (technically mulan and moana aren't princesses which bums me out.) Black girls and Black community in general would be able to relate to her more than Little mermaid. T'challa is the King of Wakanda and his nation is far more advance and wealthier than any other white dominant nations. There are ways to make characters of different race and/or sexuality be better representing than a establish character changed to mexican or made trans. It just so lazy and it gets people who are fans of previous characters mad and irritated.
Second, its on the recent Spider man across the spider verse thing where people keep saying Gwen is Trans. She is not trans but she is an ally. Isn't it also important to have allies of your believes as well? Are people who are in that community that matters? I think it is as important to portray good allies. Gwen and her Father were great representation. They weren't always talking about it nor were they constantly tried to fight those who were simply not for it. How the animators and the team subtle dropped hints showed more power and more influence to those who have misconceptions of the LGBTQ communities. What people see more on social medial are the Radical Leftists and LGBTQ Activists. They rarely see the calmer and more understanding ones. So showing that kind of representation is better for the community as a whole.
Lastly, is please stop saying that just because they are not allies, they are __phobic. It just creates more hate. People who are adamantly against it and is very violent about it, sure thats fine but just because they don't support your ideals or morales does not always mean they are your enemies. Most of the time, they simply don't care. They have their own life to worry about in this difficult world. Plus, what's wrong with having difference of opinions and morales? There is nothing wrong with that (unless it's too much to the right or the left, is very nationalist like nazi level, you know, nothing too crazy). You are free to think what you want to think and respect others of what they think.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
