What’s the purpose of a $100 bill when $20s can do just as good.
Post Body

I hate $100 bills, there’s no point for them.

Let me ask you this: what purpose does a $100 bill have that 5 $20s couldn’t handle? And if you’re worried about space then why not get a bank card or a prepaid card. They’re sold everywhere and are pretty much the same as a bank card, even at gas stations.

I work at a gas station and we have a safe we can get money drops from, if we’re short on change in the till. The store I work in also has a store owned atm instead of one from any major banks, meaning we have to maintain it as well.

The problem for this becomes the $100 bill. It’s not a big issue, it’s minor, but it becomes an issue when it takes more $20s to give them their change as well as break it to put back in the safe for safe loans.

Which you could argue that we could just break it at the bank, but that won’t happen until the manager gets here, and we’d still need to take out a safe loan to give it to them. Even then why not go to the bank yourself, or just not get a $100 bill to begin with.

Aside from that it’s just been made a store policy at my store. I don’t know the full reason but this is the best argument I could come up with.

It’s not a bad thing, fake bills are becoming more rampant recently, mostly $100s and they’re getting more convincing according to corporate, but if we just turn them down, then hey, no worries on that.

Plus if it’s like $90 worth of stuff, I don’t mind taking just one a night, but it’s usually not the case. People come into a store and just expect to break a $100 bill like it’s a bank.

It’s just flashy, and screams “hey I have money, look at me!” and for what, a little less space in your wallet? Congrats, especially if you then try to break it at a restaurant or gas station by getting $10 worth of stuff. Why not just get some $20s out of the bank. Most atms will do $20s only, and if you go inside instead you can ask for them specifically.

Even aside from the store policy there are other stores in the area that can and will take it assuming they have the change. Problem with this though is that while the next closest one is just in town, which is about 5 minutes at most as an overestimation I came to, no one around here wants to go into town. They’re afraid of the bums and addicts roaming the streets of the town over leaking in, or the cops that will pull you over in that sleepy little town. Or they’re just lazy. Whatever the reason, they just don’t want to go into town to break a $100 bill like an asshole.
