EDIT: Art Wishlist
You’re all super awesome. Literally gonna make me cry at work. Like you’re amazing to help out a stranger like this. I hope you get all the good karma in the world (the kind the universe offers, but I guess the Reddit kind too haha).
Sorry the list is long, it’s just what I’ve thrown together over time hunting down supplies. Seriously, don’t feel obligated to go crazy. Just the thought of any of you helping is truly humbly and I’m so so so grateful.
I also included some things for my girlfriend as one commented asked for. The biggest thank you. From both of us!
————————————————————————
Hi all. So I just celebrated my birthday a few days ago. I was debating on posting here or not because asking for help has never been something that’s come easy for me. Whether it’s pride or discomfort, I’ve just never liked asking others for things. However, thanks to COVID, my birthday this year was super limited. My partner and I have both been going through financial trouble, I was laid off when the pandemic hit and she actually contracted Corona and was out of work for about two months with residual breathing issues. She’s great and did what she could for my birthday (We always exchange Funko Pops so she got me a bunch) but I know even that stretched her thin to the point that bills and such have been a struggle. But we’re figuring out how to make it work.
However, in order to make things work, I’ve had to sell off a lot of my hobby, which is tabletop gaming. I sold a lot of my collection of my favorite games, my RPG books, Magic the Gathering Cards, and Warhammer armies to make ends meet. I know that might not seem like super important stuff to some people, but it’s the one thing that I really enjoy. It really sucked to have to sell off some of my favorite items, but being able to eat and pay bills was more important at the time.
With all that being said, I would love it if someone was feeling kind enough to want to help out with some art supplies for what little I do have left. With the tabletop gaming, my favorite part of the hobby is building and painting miniatures. I sold literally all of my miniatures except one box, which I held on to just so I’d at least have one thing to paint. However, paints and supplies have been out of my budget. And every time I get a little bit ahead, something comes up that knocks me back down and out of the means to afford the luxury of my favorite past time.
Not to compound my sob story, but I’m also in recovery. My hobbies are what helped me with my sobriety by giving me something I genuinely enjoyed doing in order to distract myself from the cravings and the rough days. Days where I feel like I’m drowning, the art helped. When I felt like I couldn’t catch my breath, was just so overwhelmed by everything, I could sit down and paint for a few hours and feel like I was at least centering myself.
So I guess I’m asking for help with some art supplies so I can paint again (I don’t think I’m allowed to ask for miniatures to paint as the rules say no gaming requests, even though they talk about consoles and I’m guessing video games, but I don’t know if that’s allowed. I hope I’m not violating the rules by even bringing it up. If I am, apologies!) Things like acrylic paints for war gaming - citadel, Vallejo, scale75, green stuff world, etc. - or like primer, kneadatite, sculpting tools, files, anything of that nature would be super awesome. And would make a difficult birthday just a bit brighter.
Thanks for your time and I hope everyone is staying safe out there, you’re all lovely in this community and I genuinely think what you do for others is really a beautiful thing.
