Edit: Fulfilled :)
Hello everybody!
It’s that time of year when the cherry blossoms of Washington DC are in full bloom, and I’m (we’re!) celebrating with a variety of special cherry blossom themed postcards.
In my original post, offered 5 cards WW and 7 US. I have a total of 12 WW & 8 US going out after a big response! I used all my postcards, stamps, and goodies. I dug deep in my bag of tricks and found a few more. This offer is going to be US only. I want to try to let my West Coast folks get in on this, so I'm posting it at a friendlier time for those of you on PST.
When I think of flowering trees of the West Coast of the US, the first thing that comes to mind is the ubiquitous bottlebrush tree. From Seattle to Los Angeles, I give myself away as a visitor because I like to touch the soft little spikes.
I've got 4 more cherry blossom cards and one more goodie to share with a random responder. Leave your opinion of the bottlebrush tree (Yay or Nay?) and what your favorite flower is (because I already know it's *not* the bottlebrush).
Please note: I’ll need some time to get these ready to mail. I’ll post them from the National Postal Museum’s in DC, with a request for the special postmark (cancellation stamp). Currently aiming to post them by April 10 April 11. No post on Sundays
The story of Washington DC's cherry trees for those interested:
The tradition of celebrating the blooming of cherry trees in Japan is centuries old.
The planting of cherry trees in Washington DC originated in 1912 as a gift of friendship to the People of the United States from the People of Japan.
In Japan, the flowering cherry tree, or "Sakura," is an important flowering plant. The beauty of the cherry blossom is a symbol with rich meaning in Japanese culture.
For more than a hundred years, we have celebrating cherry trees blooming in solidarity.
Happy Spring, Friends!
