Edit: I'm going to mark this as fulfilled. Thanks for everyone that shared! I'm going to audit my postcards, stamps, and finances to see if I can do another round since this is already been so much fun!
Hello everyone!
It’s that time of year when the cherry blossoms of Washington DC are in full bloom, and I’m (we’re!) celebrating with a variety of special cherry blossom themed postcards.
Non-US folks, I’m sorry that customs fees and forms keep me from sending goodies to you in the envelope. I’ve got the most exceptional postcards set aside for you, along with a special stamp, the USPS Raven Story. If you want yours in an envelope (or don’t), please let me know. I’ll post them from the National Postal Museum’s in DC, with a request for the special postmark (cancellation stamp).
US folks, I’ve got a couple of bonus goodies to add for a couple of lucky people. These include the Official National Cherry Blossom Festival lapel pins from 2020 and 2022. I’m going to choose randomly from the responses.
Let’s do 5 international and 7 US folks.
I adore the cherry blossoms, but pink isn’t exactly my favorite color. After all, I’m from Salem. Let’s hear it for the Queen of the Night! Please comment below with your favorite color and/or flower, and I’ll PM for your address.
Spoiler alert: These lapel pins are only $5 and sold all over DC. They aren’t rare or valuable, but they’re pretty and support the Cherry Tree Endowment Fund, which maintain and care for our lovely trees.
Please note: I’ll need some time to get these ready to mail. Currently aiming to post them by April 10.
The story of Washington DC's cherry trees for those interested:
The tradition of celebrating the blooming of cherry trees in Japan is centuries old.
The planting of cherry trees in Washington DC originated in 1912 as a gift of friendship to the People of the United States from the People of Japan.
In Japan, the flowering cherry tree, or "Sakura," is an important flowering plant. The beauty of the cherry blossom is a symbol with rich meaning in Japanese culture.
For more than a hundred years, we have celebrating cherry trees blooming in solidarity.
Happy Spring, Friends!
