It was fun to find some get some happy mail today, after the Christmas card rush has ended. "Books let you travel without moving your feet" is a great quote, I agree. When I was a kid and the internet was new, I lived with my nose in every book I could find. I don't read as obsessively now, but I still enjoy it.
I'm lucky that I live in California and rarely have to drive through snow. The downside is that a lot of people here do not own snow tires or chains, so when that oddball storm does hit, people aren't ready. We did have some frosty days just before the new year, but only the higher elevations actually had snow stick.
