Hello RAOC friends!
Unfortunately, my mom’s house burned down very early Sunday morning and we lost quite literally everything.
Everyone is okay physically, my mom has a little bit of smoke inhalation, and a small burn on her leg where the fire started (heating pad). I wasn’t there. I’m MUCH luckier, because I don’t technically live with her (though most of my stuff still did).
Anyway, she’s having a really tough time coping with the trauma and grief. If anyone here on has had any similar experiences and would be willing to write a few words of advice to her, please let me know!
I’m mostly okay - my mindset is most of what was lost is replaceable, and hopefully the fire remediation team will be able to find one or two of my sentimental items.
While I’m positive a bunch of you would be willing to write encouraging words, I really only am wanting to hear from folks who have gone through something like this. I know my mom, and I know she’d feel uncomfortable and overwhelmed getting a ton of cards from strangers! She’s not like us :)
Thank you friends!
