This message (below) was posted on my local community group. This is NOT my own grandfather, but someone who lives in the same community. I don't know him, but I thought it would be lovely if he did get lots of cards to celebrate his 100th birthday. His birthday is on 7th October, so not heaps of time depending on where you are, but I imagine he and his family would really appreciate it if you are able to send a card.
The message from the local community group:
My Grandpa who lives in Rogerstone is turning 100 on the 7th of October, much to his disappointment and as we are all aware there will be no big celebrations taking place. As 100 is a massive milestone to reach, our family have a big favour to ask.
To make his birthday memorable and help him celebrate we are wondering if any residents would be willing to post a card (we are hoping to reach 100🤞) as he loves having cards and letters to open. They don't have to be shop bought and you could even get your kiddies involved!
He came from Oxford to Newport for work in 1939 during the Second World War. An old steelworks was to be converted and extended to an aluminium rolling mill for the department of aircraft production (known to many as Jubilee Park). He was involved in the reconstruction and adaption of the building as a surveyor and to this day holds a memorable place in his heart.
If you would like to send a card please address it to Mr Geoffrey Willmott //8 Rose Walk, Rogerstone, Newport, NP10 9AY, UK. Thank you x
Note: as I don't know him or his family, it is unlikely that you will get a thank you, but I will update in the weekly thread if the family posts about it in the local community group.
