I normally do my Thank Yous on a Sunday, but apparently all the days of the week are now one concurrent mass. There's no difference between a Tuesday and a Sunday, the month of March had 8000 days and the moon went pink. Alas, somewhere amongst the repeated daily rigmarole of a state sanctioned hour of outdoor socially distanced exercise, enduring and accepting the two street long queues for the supermarket and not speaking to an actual real life human being face to face for weeks on end has driven my sense of timing a bit potty and thus, well, the Thank Yous are late. It's not a real excuse in the laziest time of my entire life, but I'm guessing most of you at least partially relate.
u/TheFiestyFox sent me a bounty; my second 'Happy Divorce' card, and a shimmery sweetness of pressed flower petals. The former is now my second of that category and I'm definitely looking forward to a proper celebration when all this strangeness is over. Talking a lot more to other RAoCers now makes me realise how many of you are green fingered and botanically inclined and, honestly, it fascinates me because I can kill cacti. Plants that survive in the desert die in my care, and there a whole bunch of you are carefully nurturing up everything from vegetables to hanging baskets to great hedges of horticultural elegance. It is therefore an honour to be receiving a couple petals from such a person's plants!
u/irrevocable_curses clasped me in an incredible story about local buried treasure. A terminally diagnosed art dealer choosing to bury millions of dollars worth of gems around the Rocky Mountain wilderness for others to find, sending out poetic clues and sitting back to watch. This was in 2010 and no stash has been discovered yet. The dealer's prognosis is no longer so bleak but has chosen to continue gleefully observing the hunt and claims the someone has been within 200m of one cache of treasure. This is the kind of troll that a person can love. The engaging story came in a beautiful illustration of an old fashioned map of the world, all gold and sparkly and detailed, and a few other goodies tucked inside. This sub in itself has been my own personal found treasure <3 ( Oh God, please forget I said something so twee. I have a reputation as a bitch to uphold)
u/rsmith1807 sent cards from their late grandfather's collection. For me that was a Monet card. After lockdown they intend to get a tattoo in their grandfather's honour which i think is a wonderful idea, and also take the other half on a simple date and go for a decent hike. It's made us all miss the simple things now, and hopefully when this all ends we'll be less inclined to put things off for another time or another day and be more appreciative of the physical presence of loved ones. Thank you so much for the card with such lovely associations, I hope you make it through the next phase with a shred of sanity intact.
A pantone card with the neatest printed handwriting from u/africanviolet. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement and praise. Sometimes we forget how far we have come. There was an elaborate bevy of stamps as well. I'm starting to think I need to up my philatelic game here, because even as not a stamp collector, I'm loving receiving beautiful and cool and strange stamps. Whilst I generally send mine off with a default thing printed off a self service machine.
u/InkCorrespondence sent out cards celebrating their cake day, also with very cool stamps and my name in an angular and gorgeous calligraphy. The postcard shows a timelapse of traffic in Atlanta, Georgia. I can't imagine there's nearly as much traffic around to be able to take these types of shots right now!
u/dirtytightsdelano (x6). She sent me a whole bunch of good wishes, some enthusiastic cardy activities, an existential crisis, and then a motherfucking curse so the girl is clearly having a breakdown and needs chocolate sending in her direction post haste.
u/katiecococo sent a card with a simple and beautiful golden J on it, squeezing it out in the post just as Florida's shelter in place order was given. Have I been able to find more entertaining TV than Love in Blind? I wish I could answer to the affirmative right now, but it seems my brain just wants to watch the trashiest crap that the whole scope of streaming services has to offer, and now that I've finished it I'm not sure anything will match up and there's a hole in my life. Thank you for the quotes from Buddha and Gandhi that quietly remind one that actions that inspire change or positivity do not have to be huge or grand, and that the present moment is all we can control.
Finally a stunning and genuinely moving handmade card from u/Tigerlady13. Things have not been great, some days are better than others. I don't normally bring the really bad days to the boards because I hate feeling like an incapable, sick twat, but on a slip she picked up on it and has been a constant sound of encouragement and sincerity. There are special souls in the world that need to be nurtured and kept healthy because the effect they have is greater than they know - thank you for being such a person.
Thank you all for being part of community that has brought so much light and small joys in dark and unpredictable times.
