30 years ago, after several months of protests, the government of the GDR drafted a bill, which would finally allow citizens to travel. On Nov 9th 1989, a press conference was held to announce the new travel regulations. However the politician talking about it seemed not quite prepared and confused. When asked by a journalist when the regulations are to go into force, he answered: "As of now; immediately!"
Despite the fear this might not end well (between 1961 and 1989 about 400 people died at Berlin border crossings and border security wasn't prepared at all), in the following hours thousands of West and East Berliners got through the Wall at the Brandenburg Gate and walked over Pariser Platz square and through the gate. People danced for joy on the Wall and the cement embankment remained occupied by several thousand people.
To celebrate this historic event, I'm offering one lenticular postcard showing the Brandenburg Gate in 1967 and 2011.
I'll leave this offer open for about 24 hours and will then choose a lucky recipient.
Please comment, if you are interested. I'll contact the winner later for the address.
Feel free to ask any questions about the events from that time, so I'll have something to write about.
Edit: here's a short video in English about the events of that night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTBnOoBEJP0
Edit: Thank you all for participating! u/sianstudent is the lucky winner.
