u/linzrap - Thank you for the postcard proclaiming our love for ‘banned’ books. You’re right, it is more enticing to read a book so controversial it had to be banned! I love to read/watch/see things that expand my mind and force me to look outside of my comfort zone. Thanks again, and good luck back at school! :) also - happy birthday and hope u get your mail soon :))
u/tigerlady13 - Thank you so much for the unexpected artsy postcard. I find the image of the fork and its shadow really neat!! So sweet of you to send it!! I think I’ll put it on the fridge… That’s where all my food-related postcards end up;)
u/vickiiiie - hey b’y, so nice to receive this postcard written in Canadian, eh? I love the idea of these interactive postcards. Keri Smith makes great creative stuff. Summer in Halifornia has been pretty hot, several days got up into the low 40s !! Also, recently it’s been humid AF (100% for several days). I hope you haven’t completely melted. Take care <3
u/hu_lee_oh - mystery card!!!!! I received this probably a month ago and I wanted to actually make a separate post about it once I had solved it. But I’ve had a strange and busy summer, and it got buried under a bunch of crap on my desk. I will ponder it for the next several days. Thank you for sending such creative stuff, you are a unique character in RAoC ;)
u/panpantastic - Thank you for the beautiful Japanese art postcard. Looking closely, the details and the colours in the fabric of the women’s kimonos is just incredible. Shoen Uemura was truly a great painter !! Do you have a favourite artist?
u/Zoeybird0075 - Thank you so much for sending a postcard from your travels. I enjoyed reading about the things you enjoyed, like the food and wine. And don’t worry, I think the expression is correct as you said it - “flowed like wine”, not water. ;) I also adore the beautiful stamp of David vs Goliath from Austria!! I can't stop looking at it. Thanks !
u/unofficialjuice - Ugh, I LOVE this black cat postcard!!! Thank you so so much for picking out something so suited to me. It’s definitely going up on my wall when I redecorate soon. It was really nice to hear your memory of getting this postcard in Istanbul, and the cats you encountered there.. I have a friend from Istanbul and I’d love to visit, it seems like a fascinating place! Hope you are well. :)
u/StephanieTay - Another cute postcard! This little squirrel is absolutely adorable. Thanks for sending. Hope you receive the mail I sent to your old address, and please PM me your new address ! :))
u/lumiaglow - Hello, thank you so so much for the peach card! My mom continues to call me her “peach” and this pretty card makes me smile. It was so neat that you wrote facts inside - I think that peaches might be my favourite fruit as well! They are so sweet, juicy, and uniquely flavoured. Also, your handwriting is impeccable. I have you on my list to exchange with, and I’m sorry that you haven’t heard from me. I’ve been very slow to get through my mailing list this month. But I haven’t forgotten. <3
u/aur0ry - Wow, thank you thank you for the original art!!!! Your drawing of Tradescantia spathacea turned out SO nice, and I really enjoy looking at it. The leaves are just perfectly pink. So so accurate. I hope you had fun drawing the plants! Did you find that the exercise was what you wanted it to be? I find that asking for requests is a huge challenge, and it can really force you out of your artistic comfort zone!! BTW - I didn’t know that there is a Halifax, UK ! I live in Halifax, Canada, just across the Atlantic from ya ;) How fun to be exchange buddies !
u/intelligent_lobster - Sticker explosion in my mailbox!!!! Thank you !! This was so fun to receive. I love stickers, so all the decorating you did was very fun for me. Your octopus doodle over the front of the card is just adorable. And the poem inside is intriguing! Did you write “Devotion”, or did you find this poem somewhere? Thanks again! :))
u/reedbean - Thank you so much for this GORGEOUS hand-lettered quote postcard!! It is absolutely beautiful and I’m going to put it up on my wall, to enjoy, and to be encouraged by. So so sweet of you to send. Also, that fox sticker is ADORABLE. How do you write so cutely and neatly?!?!??! <3
u/solituderequiem - Thank you for writing such a personal message on this postcard from your school. It is always nice to hear about other students overcoming their struggles and finding success. It sounds like you’ve worked hard, and you deserve all the good things you may find. Thanks again, and good luck to you in future! :)
u/oslofast - Thank you for this postcard from Montréal. To be honest, I feel chilly just looking at it !! ;) My roommate just got back from Montréal, and he absolutely loved his time there. I think he would move in a heartbeat! I am trying to encourage him to plan to go there, but he is unsure because he doesn’t speak French. I guess I should probably teach him ….
u/sosococomomo - Thanks for thinking of me, and sending me a random card. <3 You are too cute !! You used some adorable washi on the envelope which, of course, does not go unnoticed !! :D And those cute animal stickers you included are so unusual!! Are they illustrations from an old children’s book?
u/biblio_reckah - Thank you for the postcard about writing a “backwards novel”. My best friend back home is a writer - we bonded, partially, over playing a great board game called “Chapters”. You have to answer trivia questions about famous literature to win ! I think I may pass the postcard to her in my next mail I send home, she will also enjoy it !! Hope the postcard I sent you arrives soon. Have a great September. :)
u/Hediye_ - Hello ! Thank you so much for the postcard from Turkey!! The images on the front of this card are gorgeous - there must be so much history in this region. The old church paintings are lovely, and I have NEVER heard of “fairy chimneys” before!! So cute!! When I was little, I used to imagine that fairies were real. I still like to think that there’s a chance… ;) I hope you are having a wonderful day. :)
u/ninajyang - EEK the PINK!!!!!! Thank you so much for this absolutely gorgeous , sparkly , pink , pretty monstrosity of a washi explosion!!! Your neatness/precision in making these washi cards just astounds me. You must be an angel that Lord Washi sent down from heaven. Thank you !!! This made my day!!!
X4 u/inflammammal - Haha, I’ve said this before, but your username is fun to say !! Thank you so much, again, for the vintage postcards. These Christmas cards are really lovely, and I think my family will really appreciate them - my mom, especially, loves nostalgic stuff like this! She’ll especially enjoy the postcard with the bird. :))
X2 u/EllaBoodle - I did receive your cards!! I knew I recognized your username, haha ;).
1st card- So cute to receive a touristy postcard from home (Ontario). I have passed through Kenora a couple of times, driving the highway to Alberta. It is really beautiful in Northern Ontario. Unfortunately, one April when passing through, we stopped at a gas station KFC for dinner because there was NOTHING else open in that town. And I got food poisoning!! Ugh, unfortunately not the greatest memory ! But the postcard is lovely and peaceful. Thank you!
2nd card- Oh mannnn I read your rant on this one and I hear you about Becca loud and clear. That is so sad that your brother is putting up with all that, and worse, it’s annoying you and his friends as well! I am crossing fingers that they can break things off before it gets any uglier. The postcard that you wrote on - the shar-pei pups - is SO effing CUTE !!! Thank youuuu !!
u/SeaweedTreacle - Thanks so much for sending a postcard from the beach. I enjoy that the image was taken on a day when there were no tourists around, I can imagine myself peacefully basking there in the sand…. Although that probably isn’t likely ! A beach near me, called Lawrencetown Beach, is known for being a great place to surf. The day we went, despite the wind and incredibly cold water, the place was quite packed. I got a nice sunburn, haha. Did I come to any decisions about “that person”, you ask… Ha, ugh. I am still quite wrapped up in the drama of “that person”’s life. I’d have liked to break things off, but now he is finding out that he might have very serious health issues, so I feel like a jerk (and he is very much using this to his advantage to keep me around). Soo, my indecision continues! 🙃
X4 u/bamagg - What a SURPRISE !!!!! This mail made my whole weekend when I received it!!! So kind of you to send me such cute stuff out of the blue. I love the art postcards you thrifted - I may not even share the one of the goddess-looking woman, I want it up on my wall! The note you wrote me was really sweet, thank you. My summer has been wonderful, and yes I enjoyed the goodies very much. I’m glad that my crazy colourful envelope art made you happy. Also that cute kitty sticker winking at the end - adorable! Now. As for the Postcard Which Shan’t Be Named... I laughed so hard at that, I also love how you covered It’s face with an apology note 😂. I shall be passing it on to the next unsuspecting victim…. Thank you again ! <3 Hope you’re looking forward to September ! BTW - did you change your address ? I just want to confirm, as I updated my Excel sheet with it.
u/stephkempf - Thanks for the unexpected cute notecard!! I was SO intrigued by the wine label on the envelope, I had a friend over and we actually spent several minutes wondering about the origins! Did you print onto a label? Did you have it made? Did it coincidentally mention RAOC?? Well, finally I opened the damn card and the explanation was there. ;) Cute ! Thank you !
u/Amrache - Oh my gosh, this made my day!!!!!!! Your package was one of the most fun and whimsical mail I’ve received ! :)) First, the Australian stamp is so pretty. I love that it’s bigger, too , Canadian stamps would be much cuter if they weren’t tiny :/ . And then I saw the EMU and my friend who was visiting and I laughed so hard at it’s stupid face!!!! Then, I smiled at your cute Sugar Glider drawing, and started reading your koala line…. When we realized it was a HAIKU . !!!! I’ve never gotten a haiku in the mail before !!! The note you included, explaining the truth about the animals, was very much appreciated and highly educational! And thank you so much for the adorable animal stickers. It almost makes me forget how terrifying Aussie wildlife really is !! ;) <3
u/M0NK3YKLNG - Thank you so much for sending this beautiful postcard from your trip!! I also really liked the Vietnam stamps, so I saved one from the envelope and taped it to the back of the postcard. I am so sorry you had to sweat through such awful heat in Vietnam!! Cold Brew Oolong tea sounds wonderful, I’ve never had it!! I absolutely love lychee, so I’m sure I’d enjoy it. What I’ve been doing all summer is making my own cold brew coffee. Usually I just add a bit ((a lot)) of cream, but sometimes for a treat I add a touch of vanilla or a splash of maple syrup. It definitely keeps me up when I work nights ((or for having to get up early the next day!!))
