My birthday is this week and I would love to receive some cards to celebrate. I have a rare genetic disease, mitochondrial disease, and because of it am autistic and have some mental health conditions (bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety, depression). This year has been difficult both with physical health and mental health. I have dealt with multiple infections, including sepsis more than once, in my physical health and have been hospitalized for planning suicide due to severe depression/bipolar disorder in my mental health. I have had to fight hard, but I am so thankful to be here and be celebrating life. Birthdays are especially sweet because as an infant I was diagnosed as profoundly and terminally brain damaged with a life expectancy of less than a year of age. This year will be my 38th defying those expectations and living beyond what anyone believed was possible.
