So, I work with a wonderful woman, absolutely one of the nicest, most pleasant people I have the pleasure of interacting with, and one of a handful of my coworkers who has always helped me feel welcome and supported in the agency.

Today, she and I were discussing our home lives and she shed some light on the struggles of her 11-year-old daughter, Gabby:

• The house they were renting was sold a few months ago and Gabby had to move away from her very best friend, who lived in the house behind them for 6 years. Both girls were understandably devastated.

• She has suffered so many random injuries recently, including one requiring eye surgery.

• She is entering MIDDLE SCHOOL (cue foreboding music) and is not feeling good about it.

• As if it's not bad enough to be in a new environment, with a new structure, struggling with the lockers, and being barred from joining clubs and sports as a 6th grader (they have to wait until 7th), Gabby wasn't scheduled in the same lunch hour as ANY of her friends. She is freaked. I don't blame her, I remember quite well the sort of stress that creates.

My heart goes out to this girl, she is in an extremely challenging phase of adolescence and her Mom is wracking her brain for ways to help Gabby feel better, but has run out of ideas. So, I thought, how about cards?!

If anyone out there would be willing to write a card to this kid, with some words of encouragement, advice, or just a little hello, I would be eternally grateful!!

I'm going to ask that the cards be sent to my address, since I don't want to give out the family's address without their agreement, and I also want this to be a surprise. I will collect the cards and give them to Gabby!
