I’ve asked for cards for this in years prior (hello 2021!) but alas ~ I am not well ~ and I am having my third endometriosis excision surgery!
This time however, it’s with a real expert surgeon who has a real team who really knows how to deal with my incredibly stubborn and persistent endometriosis.
I’ve had two surgeries already here in Canada but we have a shortage of skilled surgeons who can remove this painful and debilitating disease and I simply cannot wait on a long waitlist. I’m still waiting to get on that waitlist anyways. My family and I have made the difficult decision to get care outside of the country by someone who only deals with endometriosis and is skilled at it.
I am STRESSED as this brings a whole other list of logistics (y’all weren’t kidding when you said US healthcare is EXPENSIVE) but I am also so excited at the prospect of having a life?
The last year has been a lot of crying, pain, falling asleep in the bathtub, medication, therapy and being stuck in bed. I am really hopeful I will be able to do a lot of things after surgery that I can’t do now.
I’ve been told some difficult things - about the severity of my disease at my young age, that I may need a hysterectomy sooner than later and that I may end up needing a bowel resection.
But I really believe this is the best choice I can make and a choice that many endometriosis warriors from Canada have had to make.
After that big spiel, I am asking for your support if you are able in helping me face my very big fears about this surgery and your encouragement through my recovery.
I would be so happy to receive any cards but if you would like some themes, sunflowers are a big symbol of endometriosis (I even have a sunflower tattoo!), yellow is the colour of the awareness ribbon and I am always down for some uterus-themed art (although endometriosis isn’t a uterine disease, I still like uterus imagery!).
Thank you so much 💛
