u/rennbrig I’M BANANAS IN LOVE 😍 with THIS GLORIOUS POP-UP CARD of Edward Hopper’s timeless work “Nighthawks”!!! How cool - this is the first pop-up card I’ve ever received! :) 💝 Thank you so much for thinking of me while you were at the museum - I feel so special to receive this beautiful gift from your Sunday excursion! You inspired me to learn more about one of your favorite works of art. I’m a nerd for art analysis. Because I typically need help figuring out what’s going on in an artist’s head. ;) I read that Hopper recollected about this work, “unconsciously, probably, I was painting the loneliness of a large city. The Art Institvte of Chicago commented, “Through harmonious geometric forms & the glow of the diner’s electric lighting, Hopper created a serene, beautiful, yet enigmatic scene. Although inspired by a restaurant Hopper had seen on Greenwich Avenue in New York, the painting is not a realistic transcription of an actual place. As viewers, we are left to wonder about the figures, their relationships, and this imagined world.” I love that there is so much empty space in the diner - it makes me think that the scene is limitless.
