Obligatory Stuff: I'm new to writing reviews, so bear with me. I'm keeping everything together on my spreadsheet and I do record videos (no voice yet, still learning) on my youtube channel to help out with these reviews. I'll link those down below. I'm still working on the formatting of these reviews, so please, gimme suggestions or corrections.
Stats at base 60/6:
Faction: Sacred Order
Role: Everything
Sprite: 7/10
HP: 20,145
Atk: 826
Def: 1,409
Speed: 93
Crit: 15/50
Resist: 50
Acc: 10
For a Legendary, her HP and Def are high, which is what we can expect. Her speed is low and her crit stats are normal. Same is said for Resist and Accuracy. As with many Defensive type heroes, I think they are generally OP at first glance due to double dipping into one stat (defense) which does their damage as well as keep them alive. Ignore her attack stat as it does literal nothing in any way.
Skills:
- A1: Attacks 1 enemy. 45% (75%) chance of placing a 60% Defense Break for 2 turns.
- A2: Aoe 60% Defense buff and a counterattack buff to your whole team for 2 turns.
- A3: Aoe attack. Places a 50% Atk break for 2 turns and a provoke debuff for 1 turn.
- Aura: 33% increased Defense in ALL battles
As you'll see below, Martyr is great in every situation in the game. She does it all, damage, buff, and debuff. Her A1 is great for keeping up a Def break throughout the entire fight, her A2 gets as low as a 3 turn cooldown and gives you survival against late stage Clan Boss while also giving you quite possibly the most broken buff in game, or at least behind the one that doesnt let you die. Counterattacking is so important vs the Clan Boss as it allow you to hit with your A1 skills and also trigger Warmaster/Giant Slayer. Make sure if Martyr is in your team that your teams A1 all have multiple uses. Her A3 is also incredibly important as a 50% attack break will keep you alive vs late stage Clan Boss, however it only gets reduced to a 4 turn cooldown so do not rely on her being your only attack break or it will inevitably fail you.
Uses:
- CB: 10/10
She will greatly increase your teams survival and damage vs the Clan Boss. See below for my gear recommendations as it changes from pre to post WM/GS
- Arena: 8/10
She's decent in arena if you are not playing a speed team, but in this meta you want to be going first. If not, her defense aura and her buffs will really take you the distance to wear down your enemies. In arena, I'd change her gear out for Defensive stats and speed. Crit Rate gloves, Def % chest, Speed boots. Aim for Crit Rate and Defense on substat.
- Dungeons: 9/10
In dungeons she's a great lead and brings a lot of the most important buffs, ESPECIALLY against Fire Knight. For example, just with counterattack alone, if FK hits my team, I strip 11 charges off his shield. Then it's all pure damage while he recharges his turn meter. One of the biggest advantages of Martyr is her ability to solo Minotaur 15 which gives you a great start towards filling your team so you can race any hero after your first team, quickly to WM/GS. In Ice Golem, she brings defensive stats and single target damage while also providing counterattack. This might be the one fight that I'd recommend not bringing her because if you are not careful, your counter attacks could bring the boss low and if his minions are still up, he will counter attack you into oblivion. Spider, her defensive stats are nice, but counterattack is where it's at. Her first turn, the boss will eat all the spiders, but her next few turns she'll hit your entire team. And if you have WM/GS, your team will counter back on her and hopefully they'll annihilate that massive pool of HP. She greatly speeds up Spider farming. Dragon is where she shines. That counter attack will help you crush that dragon, as does her buffs and debuffs.
- Campaign/Farming: 7/10
Martyr does it all. In campaign, with a life steal set and built for Defense, she will solo 3* Brutal. However she will not be the fastest by a large margin. For the most part, she's a single target damage dealer and she'll be killing enemies one at a time. I'd put her behind any aoe champs you have to farm with.
Average Data over 4 fights vs Hard CB:
- Damage: 3,752,427
- Survival Time: 12 Minutes
My Current stats and build for Hero:
- Artifacts: Life Steal and Speed/Divine Speed. Def%/Accuracy/Speed
- HP: 35,979
- ATK: 1,577
- DEF: 3,264
- Speed: 165
- Crit: 61/120
- Res: 79
- Acc: 166
I like to have more accuracy than I likely need, and my chest piece shows. Still even with this build, she lasts 12 minutes in most Hard Clan Boss runs, and 9 on Brutal. If I could find better accessories for accuracy I'd change her chest to HP% or Def%, which I might still do as I dont really have a problem with her debuffs sticking since she uses them so often.
Masteries: Warmaster. Typical offense tree, taking anything that can increase damage. In the Support tree you want Lasting Gifts to increase your buff duration, Master Hexer to extend the duration of your debuffs, Rapid Response because your buffs will fall off and this helps make her turn come up faster, and the same for Arcane Celerity so that when her debuffs fall off, she gets yet another speed boost. Grab the Accuracy boosts too.
Pre-WM/GS: When your team is relying on dealing actual damage and not procs from WM/GS, she does a ton. You'll want to stack her Def and Speed stats so she can hit hard, hit often, and keep her buffs up
Post-WM/GS: Martyr is a Warmaster kinda girl. At this point, you want Lifesteal as it will keep her healed. You'll want to get around 35k health so that she doesnt get one shot till about 10 minutes minimum, and a single hit from Warmaster will heal her to full. She only gets 2 hits out of 3 skills so her damage overall will be lower than another hero who has 3 offensive skills
Who does she pair well with: Everyone. Especially heroes who have a great A1 and have WM/GS already. Seriously, I cannot explain to you how good counterattack is.
Who does she compare against:
- Skullcrusher: Skullcrusher offers heal reduction which does nothing to the clan boss but can help vs dungeon bosses. His A2 protects your allies from 50% damage, and gives it to SC. It also places a counterattack buff for 2 turns and makes SC unkillable. Seriously good stuff. The problem is, he doesnt give out a Def break, nor an Atk break. So while he's good, I'd hand the win to Martyr.
- Valkyrie: Valk is similar to Martyr but different enough that it warrants a comparison. Her A1 attacks 2 times and will reduce their turn meter by 10% if they have any buffs on them. Great for dungeons, not for CB. Should be good in arena though. Her A2 is an Aoe attack that gives all your allies a shield buff for 3 turns, which is amazing against CB in the late stages, it would be enough to survive another hit and therefore another round or two for your heroes to do damage. It also adds counterattack for 2 turns. However the downside is the value of the shield is based on Valks defense. Which against CB is not that great because you want lifesteal and HP. It's not bad however. Her passive is very nice in arena, not so much in dungeons as you want to remove buffs and in the end game, you should be killing all the dungeon bosses before they get too many turns. But any speed boost is a speed boost and is therefore great to have. All in all, I still give the match to Martyr as she's more direct and focused.
Do I recommend this hero: She's one of the best in the game. She does everything well, and plays every role for every part of the game. Seriously, she could very well be the most useful hero in the game.
Regret of pulling and putting resources into this hero: 0/10
