Returning after 7+ years

I am looking to get back into the game, but I know if I don't have people to play with I will never stick with it. I am not sure if I go should official or P.Server. I am located in the USA.
Does anyone mind taking a new player under their wings and helping me boost out of the lower levels.
What servers do people recommend these days (not I am only looking for servers with a decent population, don't really want to play with the same 50-100 people every day)
