How do I make the jumps to climb to the top of the radio tower?

I'm on the radio tower, and I've gotten to where you walk across the bars and jump up onto the stairs. I am occasionally able to get onto those stairs. I worked on it for half an hour before accomplishing that, and immediately failed to make the jump onto the vent. I had a lot of difficulty replicating that first jump. Like a lot. I've made it a couple other times, but I can't tell what I'm doing wrong. I've watched youtube videos, read posts, can't figure it out. Every time I try to make that second jump I fail. I've spent a couple hours on this, and I just can't figure it out.
