Post Body

I live in Eugene Oregon, and Ultrasonography has been my dream for a while. I also like Radiography. There’s two accredited programs in Oregon. One at PCC in Portland that only does Radiography, and another at OIT in Klamath falls that is the only school in the state that teaches ultrasonography. Both schools are about an equal distance from where I currently live.

PCC has slightly less prerequisites, and will allow us to get an AA degree, and OIT only offers a BS program. Part of me wants to just get an AAS in Radiography at PCC, as OIT offers online classes to finish a bachelors if you currently are an RT with an Associates.

I really would prefer Ultrasonography as that’s what I am more passionate about. Has anyone in this sub attended OIT or PCC for either program? I am still in CC finishing prerequisites, and have not contacted either school yet for more information, but I will soon.

OIT’s website says they have a lottery system to decide externships. Their website also states they partner with other hospitals outside of Oregon in a number of other states for externships. Does anyone know/ have experienced an externship like that?

What does that entail? Would the school/hospital provide temporary housing/living expenses while the externship is completed? It just baffles me to think about moving to attend the school, and then have to move temporarily again if my lottery ends up being an externship in one of the other states.
