So, I was taking my 8 out for a drive and decided to push it to redline a couple times, no issues, then I stopped at a stop sign. I kinda floored it from the stop and it had no problem till it got up around 5k then it just cut. My foot was to the floor but it was like I let off completely. Tried it again, and it went right up to redline and bumped the limiter till I let off. Okay….. Did a few pulls and it did fine. Decided to do one more and it did it again… Decided to check the codes and I got “System voltage low” Now i’m not sure if that code is from that drive or not, since I had just installed my metra kit. When at idle my voltage is at a steady 14.4-14.6, when i’m doing a pull my eyes are on the road so i’m not sure. I was low on gas but not low enough to turn on the gas light. I decided to sleep on it and investigate tomorrow, please drop ideas.

Things I suspect may be the culprit:

• Low fuel, doubtful though since the light wasn’t even on till a little after

•Coil, again doubtful since it idles smooth

•Alternator

•Vacuum leak

•Intake related issue

•Fuel pump

•Throttle Position Sensor

I highly doubt it’s an internal mechanical failure because it has no issue idling, and when it goes to redline it seems happy to do so. Also, no weird noises. I’d appreciate the help so I can head to my garage with a list of things to check instead of just going in blind. Thanks guys in advance!

UPDATE:

I heard of a problem with early model RX-8s where fuel would cut off after hard left turns with less than 1/4 tank. Therefore I went to my favorite station and filled her up. Low and behold, problem resolved.
