Results:
6220 Lbs - Truck weight, is topper and everything in it not including motorcycle or motorcycle mount
14,700 Lbs - RV and truck, fully loaded, load of water, no poop or gray
8480 Lbs - Trailer itself, max weight of 9,000
780lb - Tongue weight
Picked up one of these things on sale for my Tongue Weight, got the drop hitch model. Ended up being cheaper than the standalone TW scale when it was on sale
The reason for my increased sway is too light of a TW, mine needs to be about 880-1000~ Lbs for 10-15%. Also, a BIG THING is that I always used 1,500Lb TW weight distribution bars. It felt like that no matter how I adjusted my tow bars, I'd run into porpoising and the rear end of the truck always felt too light. Running oversized bars makes my rear end even lighter and the trailer even more up for porpoising.
I found a scale over at a feed and grain company, the scale weight was on a display by the scale. I went in when they were closed and just borrowed the scale for a moment. Tried stopping into the office later but it was locked to give them $5 for their service.
The kicker is, I just moved a bunch of things around, slapped a heavy generator on the tongue and I'm still only 780Lb TW. I'm going to have to work even harder to get my tongue heavier for safe and comfortable towing.
Moral of the story, get around to a full weigh with and without the trailer and weigh your tongue. There's so much time I wasted screwing with anti-sway and weight distribution bars in the dark when I just needed a good weigh and some basic math. Don't have a local scale? Call your local grain bin or feed place if more rural, they have scales as they need to weigh their semis. Do some calling around.
