I recently ran a game of Troika!, and had an absolute blast doing it. And in doing so, seeing how the simplicity really fed into RP options, I thought to myself 'hey, maybe this would be a good framework for that game you've been wanting to make.' You see I am also an author, and I write a series about an redneck wizard on meth in backwoods Alabama. And I have been wanting to create a flavor heavy rpg book to go along with my series, using a system that is fairly simple to pick up. And with Troika! allowing folks to use their ruleset as a basis for their own products, I thought it might be the perfect fit.
My issue is, that before I sink a lot of time, effort, and pay for art on this project, I would like to be a little more certain that I'm on the right path. So I would like to hear what you folks think. I could design my own system from scratch, I have a sort of half-assed system I use for my one-sheet and simple rpgs that I make. But besides struggling to get it play-tested, that just adds even more time to the project. And really, I do actively enjoy Troika, so building in that space appeals to me. Being able to make an evocative character in a paragraph, mein, item list, and skills...it just seems like such a good fit for my skill set.
But I am open to checking out other systems. I know Troika! isn't perfect (I've read a lot of guides to tweaking it that I think have some excellent ideas) and if you are aware of a similarly simple system that you think might better suit horror tinged meth wizard shenanigans (which I think are darker than much of the overall tone of Troika!, if only a little), I would love to check it out. I am always finding new games here on reddit, so I thought I would come to my favorite resource and ask.
Thanks!
