My question is about the obligations of game (and campaign) designers to include and incorporate history into games set in real-world settings. What do you think about how this should be handled? Is it OK to gloss over historical horrors while being entertained by battling fantasy horrors?
This may be related to terms / debate I learned about that are used in the Call of Cthulhu community: purist versus pulp.
As some here know, I’m running a kickstarter for a campaign called The Sassoon Files (not linking because I already did that on this sub… but look it up if you are interested). The setting of the campaign takes place in historical 1920s Shanghai. China at that time (and from the mid 19th century) also was a country that was compromised by Western colonialism. The development of the city of Shanghai itself was a product of this colonialism. So...I’m interested in what people think about this matter.
