Hello all the title says it all, I am slowly working on my long term project, I am writing scenarios and doing test scripts and situations in little debug rooms and also learning asperite to completely gut out all the RTP assets over time. I am more wanting to do a bit of research and things to avoid when it comes to the heavy stigma assoicated with RPG Maker.
I have played many games on itch.io or via Switch and PS4 RPG Maker MV player. I know the later are tied to the original RTP but there is ways of being creative with what is given. However I notice in many examples of games I have played that have faults whether small or glaringly large and I myself have done many of these before in the past.
- starts with a wall of text for plot
- starts with no story and you move around and have to guess what’s going on.
- Every map is massive like every castle is just a chair in an aircraft carrier size room.
- People’s plots move so fast it’s jarring. I was victim to this with an old game myself but when you play so many rpgs you just want the player to get to the good bits fast but you forget the filler can serve a real good purpose for your character development and world building.
- Fight balance out of whack as in either encounter rate is so high or beginning monsters give way too much hassle for what should be a 'Tutorial' of sorts.
These are but a few things I found and am trying to avoid in the creation of my RPG. Is there any other advise anyone can give or is there a way of talking to like minded creators because the rpg maker discord seems rather barren.
