So… this season a lot of people seem to be upset at the decisions the queens were making and we saw it last season as well with the lemon, jimbo and pangina eliminations. Rightfully, people are annoyed that queens who are doing better in the competition are leaving over those who are not, so I just want to explain why this top 2 format is actually good for the show and makes for interesting content.

The queens sending each other home means that the basis of their decision will not solely be on who “deserves” to be there more. The judges can’t save a queen or edit around a lip sync to save the queen they like, it’s totally in the queens hands. These queens can say they’re making their decisions based on who deserves to be there but that’s not the whole picture.

When a queen picks a lipstick she’s choosing to send someone home based off many factors, including how close she is to that queen, how well they’ve been doing, and how sending home this queen will help them win. I’m going to examine some controversial lip stick decisions and help yall understand why they were made, why they were smart decisions, and why it’s good TV.

Series 1: 1. Lemon - Pangina wanted Janey as an ITL ally and lemon was in with jimbo (and by extension baga and Blu) 2. Jimbo - Pangina and Ju were bffs and Jimbo was Panginas biggest threat. Ju was Pans best hope to save her when she ultimately fell in the bottom (didn’t work out) 3. Pangina - she was a huge threat, revenge for jimbo, if they didn’t get rid of her here she was winning the season.

Series 2: 1. Jonbers - scarlet needed to weaken the UK queens, Keta was a meat shield due to her choosing Choriza last week. 2. Keta - yall not ready to admit that Tia 100% made the right decision, even if keta was your fave. If there’s a makeover, girl groups, etc, keta is a huge threat to win and could take Tia out. Gothy on the other hand is a meat shield and garunteed easy out that protects Tia. Maybe Keta “deserved” to stay, but Tia wants to win this season, and this could help her do that.

All in all, these controversial lip sync decisions are not only smart strategically, but generate buzz and gag worthy moments that get the fans talking. The great thing about this format is that it’s up to the queens and we get to see interesting perspectives on who should go and who should stay.
