Can't figure out this movie about a teenager who keeps making really bad decisions

Long long ago I saw this movie, where the main character was a guy.
It could have been Elijah wood but I'm not sure.
Basically during this movie his life keeps getting worse and worse and worse. And every decision he makes just digs him into a deeper hole.
All I remember the entire movie was think oh no oh no don't do that don't do that.
Can someone help me find this movie?
