I have received so many cards with such great decorations on the envelope (or right on a postcard!). I am in the US and I get confused sometimes about what I’m allowed to do to the envelope…thoughts?

I get really nervous about putting stickers or washi tape on the bottom of the postcard or envelope where I believe I am supposed to leave room for the bar code. But I adore the look of the ones I’ve received that have pretty washi tape right along the bottom edge! I see that the barcode has been printed right over the washi and obviously the card made it to me, but I am too scared to do this myself. Especially if I’m sending it out of the US for some reason. I know this is a bit silly of me but I’ve only tried this once and it gave me so much anxiety that my mail would never reach its destination! Do you have to make sure to use a light colored washi?

What about puffy or glittery stickers on the outside? Does that drive postal workers crazy? Does it mess up their machines? I received a card from Wales I think once with a puffy sticker on the outside and my mind was blown!

How about those pics of wedding invitations with incredibly fancy and difficult to read calligraphy and the address is huge and diagonal across the envelope? If I could do that sort of calligraphy (which I can’t so this question is sort of moot) can I really mail something like that or is that just stuff you see on wedding blogs and not realistic?

Anyone else have these sort of decorative anxieties? 🤣

Anyone have tips?
