Can some of our UK folks help? I'm mega confused about postage costs now

I was just looking at Royal Mail Click & Drop | Send an item - Buy, Print, Drop , and it's showing that a letter up to 100g is £1.55 to the USA... What? This is £1 cheaper than just buying a stamp? Am I missing something? Isn't that even cheaper than sending 10g / a postcard?
I stopped doing RAoC because of the big price increases last time round but at that online postage price I could probably scrape together enough to participate regularly again
