I’m so frustrated at about the coronavirus that’s affecting the world right now. I live in Hong Kong which has been badly affected by useless government decisions to curb the outbreak.

Now I’m going to explain how it’s affecting my mail. First, the government announced that non-essential staff like the postman would decrease the delivery times from daily to every other day, which has caused a backlog of mail.

I was away on holiday last week and I only got 4 pieces of mail in total over the entire course of the week. 3 local ones related to bill and only 1 international from a dear friend on RAoC (but it was quite bulky and classified more as a package).

Secondly, turns out that the post office is prioritising delivering packages (especially those marked as surgical masks) to get them to people who ordered online and waiting desperately for their masks.

The security guard in my tower said that he’s only seen the postman deliver regular mail once over the entire week, rather than every other day as promised by the government. Being part of RAoC means that I have quite a lot of international mail, which seems to be gotten the least priority in mail delivery system.

I finally received my mail yesterday and I ended up with 30 something cards/envelopes all at once. I had 3 different envelopes from u/leiawdaforce with the earliest date stamped at 11 January from USPS, so it’s taking me more than a month to receive a mail. I’ve received mail from u/leiawdaforce as fast as one week before this outbreak so 😡😡😡.

Thirdly, USPS has announced they can not guarantee mailing times to HK anymore because some flights between the US and Hk are cancelled.

So if anyone is waiting for their thank you, please excuse me because my post office is failing to deliver my mail but it will eventually reach me.

Already set out on a mission with u/meowprincesssandwich and u/ninajyang to test how long mail will take to reach me given the situation!

Anyway, so annoyed about this virus in general. Having to work a mask out every day and only be able to take it off at home is so troublesome. Stay safe from the virus everyone!
