he’s been side sucking and has quite a bit of porphyrin around his nose. he also hasn’t been eating much of his dry food (oxbow) lately, or drinking very much water. he does still eat treats (gave him a yogie and a grape today) which i take as a good sign, but i just want to make him as comfortable as possible until the vet is open. he also has lice.
i’ve reached out to multiple vets in my area noting that this is urgent but so far my best bet seems to be the one that won’t be open for two days.
what can i do to make him comfortable? are there any OTC or at-home remedies that will help until i can get him to the vet?
UPDATE
managed to get him into an emergency vet near me this morning! they gave him an ivermectin injection for his lice and prescribed two antibiotics for the breathing issues that i’ll start giving him tonight. in the meantime i’ve been meticulously cleaning out his cage and everything in it and i’ve had him in a temporary cage near a humidifier. they said the antibiotics should have helped after one week (i’m supposed to administer them twice daily for 7 days) so i might book an appointment with another vet for after a week so he can get a post-antibiotic checkup. thank you so much to everyone who commented :) the advice i received was so helpful and i’m so relieved to have gotten him to a vet today.
