A first pet that’s all hers
Post Body

Long time lurker. Huge fan of all you rat people out there!

Growing up I had pet rats and miss them so much. Had one that lived almost 5 years, she was the best friend anyone could ask for.

Anyway. It’s been a while since I’ve had a pet rat, but my wife and I are talking about a first pet for our daughter (she is 4). Not to be morbid but our desire is partially motivated by our other pets. We have several cats and dogs that are all getting older and we don’t want her first experience with death to be one of them. I also want a pet that will teach her some responsibility as she gets older, and can also be her own little playmate. I know rats are great for this.

Bottom line is I’m losing the argument, and because I was older when I had rats I am starting to question if it’s a good idea for such a young child.

I guess I just want your thoughts...no specific questions any input is appreciated.

Keep being awesome!
