How can I safely catch my escaped pet rats?
Post Body

The title pretty much says it all. I have two juvenile female rats. I got them two weeks ago, and I just spent the past week in the hospital. So we haven't really fully bonded yet and they are still mostly scared of me and humans in general.

I keep them in a very spacious cage in our storage room. They get plenty of sunlight and exercise. I take them out to play for at least an hour a day.

But the problem is that they escaped from their cage while I was away in the hospital. So far they are limited to the storage room and we are doing our best to keep them contained there.

I have tried to lure them with their favorite snacks, but to no avail. I've tried to just corner and catch them. I even left the door to their cage open and put a bunch of yogurt treats inside in hopes that they will return on their own. Naturally, they just snuck in, took the treats, and then left again.

I have been keeping rats for the better part of a decade and have never had this problem. I am definitely open to suggestion on how I can catch them. I am really worried that they will get themselves injured or killed. Any help would be much appreciated.
