Last night after my nap I went to feed the rats dinner and say hello to everyone. After a bit I noticed that my baby werewolf rat hadn’t come out to say hello! I looked everywhere and couldn’t find him which was strange because he always comes right up to greet me. So I figured he must have escaped and I looked around the rodent room for a while. Nothing. I tried looking one more time in the cage and noticed something weird looking in their litter box so I picked it up and it was his jaw bone, completely bare with an eyeball attached. His cage mates ate him. There were no signs of a struggle at all and I know it is rare for rats to kill their cage mates so I assume he had passed and then he got eaten. I had to go around the cage and pick up the last of the remnants of my baby. I’m feeling really sad and anxious especially since this was so unexpected. I just needed to get this out somewhere in a space where people would understand how heartbreaking it is.
