i found a mass in the lower abdomen area of my two year old male rat last week. i took him the next day to an exotic vet in my area (i live in new york city) and was told that the tumor is most likely benign, which was great to hear. i asked how much it would be to remove a tumor like this and he quoted $1200 MINIMUM. i’ve never owned rats before my two boys i have now, but i’m in every rat facebook group possible and i’ve always seen the costs around $150-400.
am i wrong here? it feels way too expensive. i really want to have it removed because i love my rat so much, and i can swing a few hundred, but in no universe can i pay $1200. does anyone know of cheaper vets in the area? :(
