It's a rainy Saturday evening, here in my little corner of the UK. The fireworks are shooting up into the sky (It's Bonfire Night every Nov 5th in the UK, to commemorate the foiling of the bombing of Parliament back in 1605) and it's just a cosy evening to be relax and read. I have a piping-hot cup of tea, with some dirty fries, all home-made, and some chocolate too.
My birthday is next week, and I'll be 43. I thought this was as good as time, as any, to put up another post, to see if I can connect with anyone out there in Reddit-world.
About me; I’m 6’2 and athletically-built, about 190lbs. British-born, but have lived all over the world (more on that later). Have been living back in the UK for about 6 years now. Open to living anywhere else in the world again, for sure.
I’ve been single for a number of years now. Have spent a lot of time reflecting and considering how I want my next relationship to feel, look like, and develop - in an ideal world. Looking to meet someone that would like to build something long-term. With the inevitable distance involved when reaching out across the world, I don’t’ know how that looks initially, but I love to travel and have adventures; so I’m very open to getting to know a woman from anywhere in the world. Where you are doesn’t matter to me; just that you’re interested and curious to see where talking with me might go?
Ideally you’re around my age ( /- 10 years or so), and you like what I’ve written and want to know more. I don’t really have a physical type; there has to be attraction initially, but what’s inside is what really matters to me. In my experience, great relationships start from a strong friendship - and build from there. With that in mind, I’d like someone that:
· Has a strong sense of themselves/self-awareness; they don't have to be the finished article, by any means - just that they know who they are and where they are going.
· The ability to be vulnerable and let others in. That takes time and I'm a patient and understanding guy.
· Affectionate. I'm a sucker for affection!
· Someone that is empathetic and compassionate towards others, beyond just me.
· Open-mindedness and curiosity are also things I appreciate in a partner. I like to try new things and pull on threads that take me to new and wonderful places.
I work for a global multi-national, as a Learning & Development Specialist. I focus on soft-skills and neurodiversity inclusivity in the workplace.
Travel forms a big part of my life. I was fortunate enough to be an expat for 15 years and had some wonderful experiences all over the world. COVID made it nearly impossible for me to add to the list of countries and places I’ve visited, although just back from Turkey in June, and had a little trip to London in July, for museums and musicals. The world is starting to open up again.
Just rediscovered my love of languages. With me taking a deep-dive into Norse culture and Viking history, I have started to learn Norwegian, with a view to expanding to some of the other Scandinavian languages over time. I have been working on my French and German recently too.
My taste in music mainly centres around synthwave music; think The Midnight, Power Glove, FM-84, New Arcades - to name a few. Also love alt-rock - stuff like Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, and They Might Be Giants. I try and get out to festivals, gigs, and concerts when I can. Nothing quite beats the feeling of hearing your favourite song in a massive arena or intimate little room, played by the artist themselves.
Huge Star Wars fan. I'll talk anyone's ears off about the detail in a shot of Bad Batch or the character arc of a background character in a shot from A New Hope. I love it all; live-action, animated, books, games, comics, and everything else in-between. If you are, let's talk about your take on Obi-Wan, thoughts on the first few episodes of Andor - now that we’re nearing the end of the first season, or speculations about Mando S3?
Bit of a reader; I used to love having paper books but having a Kindle is so much more practical in the real world. I've been reading a lot about Vikings, Anglo Saxons, and the Crusades in the Middle East during Medieval times. Been reading a fair bit about learning & development and occupational psychology too.
I could go on; I could write paragraphs and paragraphs about myself, my passions, my adventures, and my dreams. I'd much rather engage directly with people interested in hearing about it.
Feel free to reach out via Reddit DM. My chat is disabled as it is super-glitchy and doesn’t lend itself to proper messaging.
I don’t expect an essay from people that reach out, but I won’t reply to low-effort responses. I would also appreciate you sending a picture with your first message, or at least being open to sharing one within the first few messages.
