Happy autumnal equinox!

I’m quite comfortable alone, but now that I’m established in my career, my youngest is 17 and driving (relegating me to prepaid gas card dispenser from Lyft driver), and I’m officially over the hill, I long for a partner to share life with as time‘s winged chariot hurries near. I am less concerned with labels, acronyms, and objective parameters than I am with finding intellectual chemistry and intimacy founded on trust and respect. I require depth. Depth requires digging beneath the superficial.

Being the pragmatic sort, I don’t expect this to come easily, especially in a medium where we are unable to revel in the myriad subconscious intangibles that are heightened in person, our senses having been honed for these for millions of years. So be prepared to talk on the phone should it get to that point after deeming each other chosen ones, as I find this the quickest judge of chemistry, short of meeting.

I live simply, minimally, and informally, valuing things like nature, character, and self awareness over consuming, ladder climbing, and keeping up with the Jones’s. I very intentionally live embedded in the woods, where I have wildlife and a river steps from my door. I use social media minimally for professional reasons, but overall it makes my skin crawl.

I enjoy transportation and industrial history, and enjoy cycling rail trails and the towpath to explore. Just the other week, I went up to the C&O Canal above Harper’s Ferry to pick pawpaws and ate them raw. I travel extensively for work and made a side trip before a meeting in Orlando the other month to tour Flagler’s mansion in Palm Beach. I have always been fascinated with the railroad that he built to Key West. I ride a few overnight trains a year and am planning one across Canada.

Other hobbies include kayaking (I paddled with a friend in DC this morning), ukulele (60s/70s/80s rock standards), New Hollywood cinema, cooking (I eat anything and enjoy trying new ethnic dishes and recreating things from restaurants), reading (thrillers and mysteries), and writing (even if I don’t have much of an audience). I will surely return to edit this mercilessly, Strunk’s admonitions about “removing needless words” ringing in my ear.

I do not want to turn this NSFW but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention sexuality, as I don’t want to pretend that it is not a part of human compatibility. Not turned on by lascivious talk in public or laundry lists of kinks, though, suffice to say that I enjoy exploring with my partner and have tried a variety of things, not all of which stuck (in the figurative sense) but such is life.

As we cannot make our sun stand still, surely we can make him run, alas, I am hitting post before day turns to dusk and yet another dawn is upon us.
