What is it that brings us to post time and again, on the small chance of making a lasting connection with someone? Are we simply gluttons for punishment, who enjoy that momentary spark of hope when you get a notification of a message, only to find it's a low effort "sup?" or worse, a dick pic?
Still, there are certainly decent people on here, though it does take some effort to weed through the chaff to find them. Some I've met in person and consider them to be extremely close friends. Others have been amazing one time conversations that I wish had lasted longer, and others still have gone radio silent after getting to know me soul deep. Yet still I am posting once more, putting myself out there into the wilds of reddit, and hoping for a response that might resonate with some part of me.
Despite my advanced age supposedly being the answer to life, the universe and everything, finding friends or a romantic interest has proven difficult. Working from home, I don't have to interact with people much, and really that's kind of how I like it. Society has really gone downhill in the past few decades, and don't even get me started on how tiktok and social media in general is causing the deterioration of relationships. Granted, people do have their uses, and I greatly enjoy dancing, more specifically, historical dance. Anywhere from 14th century to swing, though I've got a soft spot for Regency and contra dance styles.
In keeping with my historical dance nerdery, I also create my own historical outfits, ranging from the 16th century, up to the 1950s. I also tend to make garments for friends who I attend events with, as most people don't have an extensive historical wardrobe(if you are one of these people, I'd love to be your friend). I've also done cosplay for video games, TV, and movies, and have far too many future plans with my fabric stash.
What I'd like to find on reddit. A unicorn? A dragon? Folks with similar interests, or ones that are adjacent to mine, or even just a passion for history. I live in Canada, but after my trip last year to the UK, I'm fairly certain I want to move there. Logistics of that are daunting, but I think with the right incentive, it's possible. If you're from there, I'd love to hear why I should or shouldn't try to move there.
Anyways, I've quite likely rambled on for far too long, for likely no reason, but I'm still hopeless enough to believe that maybe there's someone on here that might find me remotely interesting to talk to, at least for a wee bit.
I hope anyone who made it this far finds what they are looking for, even if it's not me. You're all worthy of being loved and appreciated for who you are, and I hope you keep trying, even if it seems hopeless sometimes.
