It's finally my niece's birthday. I'm leaving for Maryland in about an hour!

I used to say that I "didn't care about birthdays."

Like when I came home from that special needs school over the summer to visit the orthodontist and get a haircut. That "birthday" sucked!

I don't know... My parents would tell me that if I didn't go that special needs school over the summer, then I would be sent to sleepaway camp. I was deathly afraid of that threat!

Well, after my best friend introduced herself into my life, birthdays became FUN!

I guess, part of it is that I want to feel important to someone....in a way that's other than just friendship.
