We all make decisions, some for the best and obviously wrong turns here and there.
I met someone years ago through this platform. He was incredibly brilliant, extremely talented, and obviously way out of my league.
He changed my life in many ways. Through the years, we floated in and out of each other’s lives. Seemingly chasing each other to fulfill the dopamine hits.
I finally realized that’s all it was. Fun dopamine waves keeping things interesting. Even though we were only less than an hour from each other, we never met. He did, however, push me into bettering myself.
Is that why people continue to post here? Finding simple dopamine that makes us feel alive? Finding something to fight for? Something to look forward to?
Has anyone ever had a positive experience long term from here?
Is that what all relationships are, though? Riding the little rushes of dopamine and being content and comfortable during the lulls? Dopamine isn't meant to be an all of the time thing, and the lulls are a good time to focus on oneself and feeling grateful for having a good relationship. I'd love to be in a relationship that's just comfortable. Not everything has to be an exciting dopamine rush or needs to be fought for.
To answer your question, I actually did find something long term from here. Not a romantic relationship, but I made a really close friend who I still talk with to this day :) And the only difference between our relationship and a romantic one is literally just the romance and physical intimacy. To me, that stuff is icing on the cake of a relationship and friendship/personality compatibility comes first and foremost.
