Hey, thanks for reading. So as the title implies, I am a live in caregiver for my elderly mother. We lasted through the pandemic alright, but recently she's been having more health issues pop up. Three hospital stays over the past six months, memory loss, all that fun stuff. We have some family nearby but they're keeping at arm's length, so it falls on me. She has good days and bad days, but I need to be on the ball constantly to watch for falls, make sure the stove is off, remind her to stay hydrated, etc.

I was working up until a few months ago when I was part of a layoff, still looking for work but having to care of her is taking the forefront. I can't see myself working full-time at this point, possibly a remote job. I studied archaeology and worked overseas for a few years before returning to Canada, still quite interested in history.

I'm looking for someone to talk to, commiserate with, and maybe find some joy despite my situation. Maybe you're in a similar boat? I've found its hard/impossible to date locally, small-town and women my age aren't lining up to date an unemployed man in his mid-30's who lives with his mother (we split all expenses including rent).

If you've made it this far without hitting the back button, congrats! Outside of my responsibilities I try to get out and hit the pool or go on long walks by the river when homecare comes by. I'm 6'6, broad shouldered, brown hair and eyes, keeping a well trimmed beard after years of trying to manage a long face mane. I have glasses and fit the giant nerd stereotype pretty well, though I do keep healthy and keep the incoming dad bod on the slim side. I also try to sneak in a board game day with some friends on weekends. I enjoy reading and model making, for gaming I generally stick to games I can drop at a moment's notice, been getting back into single player games like Fallout 4 and MMOs like Wow recently.

I'd like to chat with someone between 30-40, with some wiggle room. I generally speak sarcasm fluently so I hope you have a good/wicked sense of humour.
